If you want to work ALOT of water fast use a carolina rig.

I use spinner baits mostly and depending on the color of the water(take a clear cup with you, this will help you in bait color choices) trailer hooks are a must.

This time of year id use a live minnow on the trailer hook if not live bait all around.
Peanut oil (dip baits into it) will get you the fish you want and dont want lol. If within 5 minutes there is no bite, move on, only the largest fish in the area hit the baits first. Study the shoreline, its warmer near shore right now then it is deeper, work any and all structure you find, bottom bouncing and jigging might be in order.

Tight Line,angler!

Try a chatterbait. I like white and chart. colors, mostly with the gold blade, but silver will work also. I catch a ton of fish on it year-round. If the grass is grown up in an are, just speed it across the water to keep it from sinking and snagging stuff. It's not weedless.

depends on how deep you are going to run and whats on the bottom, rat-l's dont have a place in my box due to the ubsurd amount of downed trees in the river here and lakes.

They will work awesome if you can run them deep enough, I really only use them when I do lake michigan salmon fishing and usually use them as a trailer bait if the nasty reef runner doesnt get em.

Cranks are great, bucktails cranks are even better. The Poppers are best used around surface cover(pad pools, milfoil, ect)

All of those will work on the Potomac. It's 10 miles from my house. Love that place. You're close to it.
