Welcome to the forum Oscar. As far as I know you would need Rerverse Osmosis water, De-Ionized water, rainwater, or well water to reduce hardness. If you use rainwater, dont collect from the roof and dont collect from sprinkles because of the polluted air, it will do more harm than good. Collect during heavy rainfalls with a bucket away from the roof and trees. Out in the open.

Hi thanks for advise, I currently use tap water and while every thing (paramaters) are all zero, Ph is around 7.6 this is not completely accurate as I am taking this from the chart provided by the test kit. I currently have Discus, Bolivian Rams, Clown Loach and Cardinal Tetra's and they are all very happy or so they seem. They have been in the tank for nearly two years.
I was thinking of carbonate hardness and how to lower it to soften the water, or does it simply not work this way. I understand most concepts but the chemistry of water and the effect of even slights changes is a bit of a unknown to me at this point. |
