Hard to say since the "inches per fish" rule is very subjective. A 10" Tire Track Eel has a lot less mass than a 10" Oscar. I would start with a few fish for a couple of weeks and see how the ammonia is. If it's zero you can add a couple more fish over time. Adding a few fish over time is the best way to go. When you get to the point where ammonia starts to become detectable, it's time to increase the filtration or stop adding fish. Keep in mind that fish will grow so make sure you lay attention to the max size the will grow to in an aquarium.

aint wanting to push the envelope, was just woundering as the inch rule is not that good to go with. also if you havent got the money to get another tank you would want to make the most of the tank you have already got with out pushing it to far

Heres the deal, they have proven that you can keep a Koi Fish, it filled the entire tank, in a 10g tank. Flow came in one side and out the other, water qaulity was prestine. The fish was in perfect health, the flow was enough to keep the fish in a slow swim posture all the time. Thats your key here. Enough filtration and water movement, and aggression levels at 0, and its possible for you to do what you are wanting to.

true its all down to how well the owner looks after the aquarium and filtration is good enough. Not nice for the fish though always want the fish to have a happy life. Fishes neededs first then mine second LOVE MY FISH
