Default PH level

Thje Ph is really high in my area. About 7.8 when i change my water 1/3 of my tank my ph goes up, Doing this to lower my amonia and nitrates, then my fish die. Altough my ph will lower slightly over time. But then its time to change the water again and the cycle starts over.
I have been told to get a water purifier. Is this like one i can get at home depot? And what specifications or details details am i looking for in a water purifier?

i don't know what Revers Osmosis w/Deionize Canister means. I just want to get a safe "CHEAP" way to lower my PH that is reliable.

Welcome to the site.

Not sure why you feel you need to lower your ph from 7.8? Mine is 8.2 from my tap and every fish I own hasn't had trouble adapting to it. It is most important to have a stable value over a set value. Most fish can adapt to what you have with little problem, with the exception of a few particular species.

A water filtration unit isn't going to do much and may cause more harm than good.

What fish do you plan to keep?

I don't get the worry about pH. If it drops low, then the water is acidifying from pollution. The solution is to do more water changes, to avoid the bounce. Aim to keep it at a steady 7.8.
How often are you changing the water?
It should be a weekly thing.
If you are heavily stocked, the pH can drop fairly quickly in many water systems. To lose fish, usually you are creating a major change in water conditions. If I did changes every month in my old house, I lost fish with water changes. Once I sensibly upped that to weekly, the problem vanished, never to return.

I would add live plants and stop doing the water changes.

I would never disagree with plants, but they will not help with the issues you're seeing and water changes DO NOT add to the problem.
