Talking owning a blue, half moon betta/male

We have a fish named Windchester and we have had him since the summer of 2011.
He is a half moon betta, that is very active. We appreciate any feedback that will help us provide him with a better life style.

He lives in a 1.5 gallon tank and we want to put him in a 5 gallon tank.
If we do not change his water every week, we deal with fin rot and other fish issues.
Luckily we have managed to find remedies to add to the water, from our local pet store, that help us keep him healthy.
Just recently we were late on changing the water and having problems again. So we are hoping that a bigger tank will be better for us all.

We look forward to being a part of this "fish community "

Welcome! He sounds very nice, any pics? Assuming you don't have a filter on his tank, you may want to add a small one when you upgrade to a 5 gallon. That will decrease your need for water changes and adding chemicals to the tank (other than dechlorinator). But the tank will have to be cycled.

Do you have a heater for your tank as well? There are both heaters and filters that work fine for 1.5-5 gallon, although most would probably say 2 gallons min. If you arrange the filter output so that it doesn't cause too much water flow, it shouldn't cause problems. I like the TOM Dive internal mini filter (1-5 gallon filter), it's small, powerful for its size and usually silent. Also about $15 if you dig a bit for them, which may or may not be a better price than other filters.

Great to have more Betta lovers on board!

Be sure to be careful about what remedies from the pet store you use, some fixer-upers/meds can harm Bettas rather than help!

There is a sticky here:Betta Splendens Caresheet on some of the things to help set your hm boy up properly.I do hope you are not using any betta/pima/mela fix on him its not safe for bettas. The best thing you an do is the weekly waterchanges and then cycle him his five gallon.
