Default Kevin

Hello all,

I have been keeping fish for the last 20 years. I have had salt water tanks in the past but without the newest technologies available today. I am setting up a 75 gallon reef tank and am taking my time with the design. I am hoping for a really nice tank and plan on using a refugium in my setup. Any advice anyone can give me will be greatly appreiated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I am building my own refugium out of a 20 gallon long tank. On one end I am putting the filter sock and my protein skimmer. In the middle I am placing my return pump which is splitting and returning some of the water to the refuge part of the tank where I will have live sand, macro algae, and some mud. I was thinking of putting an undergravel filter in this section to pass the water through the sand and mud. I am planning on powering it with a small powerhead. The resulting water will overflow to the pump section where it will be returned to the tank. Is the Undergravel filter a good idea or not and why? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No reason for the undergravel filter, the water will get filtered just running through at a slow pace.
