Default Holy. Ever. Lovin. Moly...

...there's a lot of data to assimilate.

Temperature tolerance of each species, pH tolerance of the same, managing tank chemistry, aggression levels (changing based on the number and sex of the same species!), substrate types, lighting considerations, environment needs (if you want happy, comfortable fish), size potential, shoaling needs (if you want happy, comfortable fish), bio-load per species...whew!

Always wanted an aquarium. Growing up, my buddy's house had no less than two 55s at any time and I loved 'em.

I have a 36g cycling right now.

Yea its easier to have a dog, feed him water him pick up some poop and your done. Aquariums are supposed to relieve stress not add to it
Its alot of fun though, just start slow, decide what fish you want and research them, then down the road when your ready for another tank ( and you will want another tank) get into different fish, its a fun hobby.

I'd rather not say, but I will. :/

A couple-a fish in...Bio-Spira to try to keep the NH3 below cruel levels.
If I can't get a jump start without a big NH3 spike, I'll take them out, put them in a quarantine tank that I'll manage by PWC, go look for some pure Ammonia for the big tank, and research fishless technique again.

We're animal lovers, and my wife worked at a vet for a few years, so the tank and it's inhabitants aren't just 'decorations' or toys for me to fiddle with...they're new friends. I don't plan on torturing them.

It really is a lot to take in, but you're off to a good start, doing some research while you cycle, vs. what I did which was take all my advice from the girl at the LFS and end up with sick and dying fish. What kind of fish are you using for your cycle?

There's a lot to be said for uninformed optimism! In the past month, the main thing I've learned is that I've been running on luck for years. Proves the point that stable is best even if it's less than ideal!

Seriously, I'm incredibly impressed with the free exchange of information on this site. I'm confident I'm heading in the right direction and my fish will be happier for it.
