Hey guys and gals! i started this tank 3 weeks ago..
Im running a 55 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium . It consists of 1 Common Pleco (or at least looks like one) 2 Black Moor Goldfish 3 Blue Coral Gouramis Im using a non - colored , white tone gravel for substrate. For Filtration , 1 Aqueon 55 Power Filter and 1 Aqueon 75 Power Filter. And a steady temperature of 76 degrees F. All the Fish seem to get along well , curiously gazing at each other before continuing their exploration.. I've read in many forums these fish should not be kept together but my "petshop dealer" said that taking the risk isn't serious. Any one have any experience with this? I will post Pic in gallery. |

Welcome!
Well, the reason that the fish aren't compatible is that the Pleco and the Gourami's are tropical fish and need a heater to keep the temp' up and goldfish are cold water fish and you aren't supposed to use a heater for them. They may be ok now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start to show stress soon. The Temp' that goldfish need is between 68 degrees and 72 degrees. That temperature is NOT compatible with the gouramis, and the Pleco really shouldn't be in that cool water... they can tolerate cool water but that may be a bit too cool. You'll have to decide if you want to just go with the goldfish, or if you want a tropical community tank. 1 goldfish needs 20-30g's and every extra goldfish needs an extra 10g on top of that, so if you stick with the goldfish, I wouldn't really add anymore... maaaybe just 1. And, with goldfish you need double the filtration because they are very messy fish. You also have to do large partial water changes each week with them.
