Hello again,
What do you think of this with better filtration? What if I had a single AquaClear 50 Power Filter with one mechanical foam filter, some water floss and 2 bio-max bags on top of it all (no carbon)? How often do you think I should change each of those considering my water change ritual of 10 gallons (more than 50%) every 5 to 7 days in a well planted aquarium? Thanks, I can't believe I may actually be able to pull it off... ![]() I want to have: 18 Cardinals 08 Cory Pygmy 06 Endler males 01 Ghost Shrimp 03 Otos

Looking good, except on your 2nd list I think you might have an overstocked plan.

Thank you.
The second list is actually my signature reflecting what I have now. The other is my proposed finished community with the 18 Cardinals, etc, etc, etc.

Sorry, no, wait, rather than Floss, what do you think of using Purigen in the line-up?

Sorry again,
I think it's best I just forget about this Purigen and let the happy healthy plants do what they do naturally. Thanks again.

Have I expired my welcome here or what!
Hi BeaslBob, I did a PWC a week ago and took some reading today with 8 cardinals, 8 cory pygmy, 6 endler males - 1 female (2 fry), 3 ghost shrimp. Nitrate - 5 Nitrite - 0 Hardness - 80 Chlorine - 0 Alkalinity - 115 Ph - 7 Amonia - 0 With a reading like that, do you see a need to do another PWC? Considering there is no meds to flush or any other exceptional need. Thanks

But generally those values look good. I get a kh of 4 degrees and gh of 8 degrees with peat moss in the substrate. With no peat moss is get a slow rise in both. I would think as long as the fish are active and not breathing heavy, and the plants are growing things are fine. I never do a water change. my .02

Thanks BeaslBob, Knowing you don't bother with it is why I directed the ? to you. With constant readings like this, I'm beginning to think I too may not ever need to do any water changes but just top off as needed. Unless, and it's a big unless, there are other readings in regard to water quality that's not mentioned above in my post.

Your tank could still be cycling. And as it completes its cycle pH will rise and nitrates drop.
You may notice at that point cyano (slime blue green algae, or dark fuzzy algae)) or cloudy water. At that point you could just kill the lights and stop feeding until it clears. Then resume with less lighting and feeding. That is a very common thing as nitrates drop down but there is still some phosphates. The lights out and reduced feeding "shocks" the system to kill off the cyano and bring it back into balance where the plants are more in control. Keep in mind that these tank do not demand much food compared to filtered systems. keep us posted. my .02

Thanks for the added info. My tank has been running since Oct 1st so I'm quite sure it's cycled and my system is filtered with an AquaClear 20 now (soon going to an AC50). Keeping you all posted, I will do. Thanks again.

It's not cycled and any tank really never completes it's cycle. but it does get over the dangerous first hump. Just like your's has.
In your case the lowering of nitrates, rising ph, cyano, cloudiness have yet to "hit". But each tank goes through those more "mature" cycles. My 7 year old tank is still cycling. But hopefully it will last another 7 years. my .02

I only meant that my new filtered tank setup has cycled. With living fish and plants and bacteria, etc, etc, etc, the life cycle continues.
