Default Greetings from New England!

Good morning, everyone!

Very happy to have found this forum. Have run across it several times when trying to find answers and have decided to join and learn more.

I currently live in Maine with 2 dogs and 7 cats. (All rescued) And I now have an aquarium.

Many, many years ago I had a 10 gallon tank and everything went pretty well after the initial fiasco. I had purchased a 10 gallon tank, was told by the fish store guy that I had to let it cycle, I set it up and waited and at the end of the first week, while I was sitting in my living room watching t.v. where the tank was located, I heard a loud, >crack!< and looked over to the tank. I watched as the glass in the front of the tank split and 10 gallons of water spilled on to my living room floor. The fish store guy replaced the tank for me, free of charge, and I began my wait again for cycling. Eventually I added in a pleco, (the kind that stays small), 3 red tail sharks, (I know some people think it can't happen but in odd numbers, they did get along), and some neon tetras.

Everyone did great and was doing great for three years. I eventually gave the entire set up, fish and all, to a friend as I was moving clear across the country and didn't think the fish would survive that.

Time passed and I lived in areas where the water was horrible or I didn't feel what I lived in could withstand the weight of a larger aquarium so I pined.

I moved to Maine in May and set about getting myself established. I was finally starting to get life going when a pet store, (chain, you know it well), had a sale on 40 gallon tanks. It was $1 a gallon so I snapped up the opportunity to finally, at long last, pick up my hobby of keeping an aquarium.

I'm so thrilled to be doing this again although I'm having issues and have made a post about that in another area.

My ultimate dream is to have the time, space and money, (and way more knowledge than I have now), to set up a salt water aquarium but that's a long, long ways off. For now, I'm happy to be working with a fresh water aquarium. Just as soon as I figure out what's going on.

Anyway, wanted to say, "hi!", introduce myself and start learning. Thanks for having me.
