Unhappy Greetings! and HELP! please

Hello from Philadelphia!

Our 5 year old comet goldfishautolinker.com autolinking image, Hans' mouth is peeling causing he/she to thrash, etc. He's alone in a 20 gallon tank (I know it should be 30) and we've tried various Bacteria & Fungus treatments and water changes. The rest of his/her body seems perfectly fine and it doesn't seem to me to be bacterial. Could it be anything else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Scott

Re: Greetings! and HELP! please

Sounds like columnaris, which is a flesh-eating infection of the mouth (commonly called "cottonmouth", caused by overcrowding and poor water quality. There are some treatments you can use, most notably a potassium permangenate bath, as described on Wikipedia (link listed below), however the fatality rate is very high once it has established itself. Best of luck!

ClearForLife 10G Acrylic, 4 HET rasboras, ~80 RCS, various snails. Ludwigia repens, various moss. Eheim 2211 Canister, 50W heater, Finnex FugeRay Planted+ 17W LED.

Re: Greetings! and HELP! please

Welcome to this great forum. Sorry to here about your fish. I believe Gizmo is right about the diagnosis being columnaris. Post some pictures if you can. This will help confirm the diagnosis.
