Tell them you want to do your part in 'rescuing' these poor things from the big box stores (WalMart, etc) who sell them but don't take care of them. You, of course, will explain just how you plan on bringing this poor fish back to health. Parents secretly love it when their kids play the 'responsiblity' card.

Good luck!

Welcome!

The good side of this would depend on if you an have both set up properly. If you can give them both a nice roomy tank with filter and heater then its doing the fish a good service by rescuing another. However you must provide them both with the ideal setup in order for it to be feesable.Otherwise its not much better than what they are in at the store, yes?

What kind of set up do you have for your current betta? If he is in a small enclosure, instead of getting another, you might get a lot of enjoyment out of creating a bigger more suited home for him that he would really thrive in. Bettas need a lot more space than people think, and really love having some nice live plants to hang out with.

welcome! I agree, it's only rescuing if you are giving them a great home--a nice roomy tank and proper environment (temperature, filter etc) Not that i'm doubting you, just saying.
