I've just started to get back into the hobby that I initially started getting interested in seven or so years ago. My first tank was a 20 gallon hex tank that I kept two (freshwater
) puffers in when I was 13. After that I started a 55 long for about a year but due to moving the fish were rehomed and the tank hit storage.
About six months ago I moved in with my long-term girlfriend and she had mentioned at dinner that she had never been able to keep fish alive for more than a month. So I showed her a rather cringy video of my 55 Long from back when I was 14 and neon gravel and plastic plants were cool. She was fascinated! So two months ago I went out and bought a 29 Gallon, an Aqueon 30 filter, a Marineland 30" led, a cheap Top Fin lid, some, much more appropriate I may add, tan gravel, a few live plants, and a Gourami named Mr. G to cycle. This tank was gorgeous, but after adding a couple corys, platys, and mollies we wanted to move to something we could stock more into.
Home I ventured! I took the 55 Long out of retirement, resealed it, painted the ugly brown stand, bought a Aqueon filter, new Top Fin glass top, and another Marineland led 48" light. I bagged those fishers up and gravity fed most of the water into the 55 Long, topped it off, and drip acclimated those guys into the 55.
Now two weeks later we're up to 4 mollies, 5 plates, 6 corrys, 1 rainbow, and Mr. G. We plan to keep it like this for awhile. We test the parameters everyday using a master kit and log the info in a notebook to keep track of all of it. We take most of the decor out weekly and do 50% WC. We've been doing this since the 29G. We try to stay diligent.
Just joining to help others with their problems as I feel like I'm versed enough to contribute, but to also ask for others' help when needed.
I've attached a picture of the 29, some of the 55 are coming!
