Heating Things Up With Eheim Jager Heaters

Not too cold, not too hotÖ you want to keep the temperature just right. Buying the right heater sets the right climate for the health of your fish.
Heaters are absolutely necessary if you live in a colder climate and want to keep any type of tropical fish or invert. Heaters allow us to control the Ďclimateí of our fishesí home, which is extremely important. If temperatures fluctuate too much in a tank, it can cause a fish to become weak, stressed, and vulnerable to disease or parasites that could mean a death sentence. To avoid this, having a reliable heater is key.

Itís tempting to skimp on the heaters, but itís one of those areas you truly cannot afford to go cheap. A reliable heater will keep your fish healthy and happy, which it turn keeps you happy.

One of the best heaters on the market is the Eheim Jager. These heaters have several features that make this heater superior to some of the cheaper varieties.

First of all, it is made of a special shatterproof glass. If youíve ever forgotten your heater was on during a water change, youíve seen how quickly a heater can get hot and explode sending shards of glass all over your aquarium. The thing with the Jager model is even if you do forget that itís on during a water change, itís also equipped with an automatic dry shut off feature, which will save you buying a new heater, and protect your fish as well.

Some heaters are simply plug in and allow to heat, which doesnít allow you any control over the temperature inside the tank. They can easily malfunction without your knowledge and result in cold fish, or hot fish. Iíve heard some horror stories of fish that were cooked alive because of heaters that malfunctioned. The Eheim Jager allows you to set the temperature yourself, having complete control over what temperature it is inside the tank, and itís as simple as turning a knob if you need to turn it up, or down for any reason.

The Eheim Jager heater is available from 25 watts all the way up to 300 watts. The cost for one of these heaters will range, depending on the watts desired, from around $25 to $50. While other heaters can be significantly cheaper, they donít offer the security and safety features of the Eheim Jager, and in my opinion, the lower the price, the greater the risk is with an aquarium heater.

If you care about your aquarium, and the inhabitants in it, investing in a strong and reliable heater is a must. Take my word for it, spend the extra money for peace of mind, and avoid the problems a generic heater carries along with it.
