Reply to thread vs. reply to poster vs SendPM

This forum only supports the first and the third. Many other forums support the all three types of reply. I think the "reply to poster" is very useful when a public discussion goes on between two or more posters and other readers can easily follow the conversation because each posting has a targeted recipient. The sendPM is not quite the same because other readers of the thread will not be able to follow the discussion once it has gone off-line.

That is what the Quote button is for. Please give it a try and let us know.
We take it a step farther, there's also Multi-Quote when you need to quote a few messages. Best regards.

I'd agree the quote will work as well for the other readers. But the targeted recipients may not know an reply is for them unless they monitor the thread thru subscription.

While "reply to thread" even with quotes lacks the the notification, SendPM lacks publicity. "Reply to poster" supports both notification and public viewing. Since the forum automatically subscribe the posters to the thread, the posters still needs to monitor if their posting was quoted. On the contrary, "reply to poster" will notify the recipient directly about a reply.
