One of the best things you can do here on Aquarium Forum is to subscribe to your favorite forums. Doing this will help you stay in the loop and be notified of activity in your favorite sections of the site.
Let's say you're really interested in livebearers, for example, and you want to know about all the threads that get posted in the livebearer forum. The best way to do this is setup a subscription to that subforum. Doing such will allow you to receive an email each day with a list of all the threads that were posted about livebearers. And by reading the email, you may find some threads you wish to participate in. You can also set the email to happen once per week instead of once per day. This is a great way to not miss a thing that's going on. Other good uses are: If your local aquarium society hosts their forum here, to subscribe to it and stay active with the club, or perhaps to subscribe to any of the various sales forums to find out about used aquarium equipment going up for sale, or maybe even for getting a list each day of all the coral frags that people are looking to sell or trade. Everyone's use for this will be different! Subscribing not only keeps you in the loop, but can give you an extra advantage to find out about special offerings before others get to it. It's extremely simple to subscribe to a forum, and it's a very similar process as subscribing to a particular thread. When you subscribe to a thread, you instantly get notified of replies to the thread. When you subscribe to a forum, you get a once daily (or weekly) update instead. Thats one slight difference. When you post in a thread, you get subscribed to it (unless you have overridden this setting in your control panel - see "Default Thread Subscription Mode"). You don't get subscribed to the entire subforum just by posting, though. You must specify to the website your favorite forums you wish to subscribe to, it's not an automatic process (unless we have done the settings for you already). Again, its important to know that subscribing to a forum will get you an email notice about new threads, before you have even posted in them! So now that you know a little bit more about this special feature of our website, its time you learn just how to do it. Visit any thread thats discussing a topic you're interested in. Towards the top of the page will be the link to the parent category that the thread resides in. Click that link to explore the parent category. In the following picture, I have circled where you will see the link to the parent category. Your thread will differ, but the location on the page is what we're focusing on. ![]() Once you click that link, the next page will open a list of all the threads in that category. It is on that subsequent page where you can create your subscription! Look towards the right side and you will see this: ![]() Click that "Forum Tools" link to unfold a menu. And there's the magic link to subscribe to the forum! Click that link and on the following page, it will give you some options to pick from, self explanatory: ![]() If you ever wish to unsubscribe, the link you clicked to subscribe will then be a link to unsubscribe. Subscribing to a forum also activates for you direct links to your favorite forums from a few places on our website. Try it and you will see! I hope this short tutorial helps you make the best use of our forums and I hope you use it well! Please let me know if you have any questions or ever need help with the website! Cheers, Jarred
