I am new here..How does someone manage to get banned ? I noticed a guy "Jim" was listed as banned.

Well let me just put this out here.
The short and sweet:
Jim used to be an Administrator here for a long while. One day Jim decided his time here was up and chose to leave. Not that big of a deal, we aren't a death camp or a cult, people may leave whenever they want.

HOWEVER Jim started posting announcements and using the mass email system to spam his new things, etc, etc.

Great guy however in the end he sorta stabbed us in the back.


--For future reference I moved this from REEF to Site Help and Feedback, as it has nothing to do with reef.

so this isn't a regular thing? sorry i just came over from *another forum* and wow, their mods like to power trip.... just wanna make sure people here are more open to LEARNING and not preaching... lol
I can't even count how many posts I had moved around because someone thought they belonged somewhere else, like 'have you ever had a tank crash' belonged in SW and not general discussion.... heh

might be going out on a limb here, but i'm pretty upset over the ignorance that I just had to deal with

Don't get me wrong there are always people who believe their way is the correct and ONLY way to do things. However most of us are open to just about any idea.

Don't even get me started about my tank setups and the amount of people at some *other* forums just blasting me for my methods....which may I add work great, just not the 'norm'. (God forbid I run my tank without a skimmer )


FURTHERMORE let me note I did edit your post however its not because I want to go all mode crazy, we just cannot mention any other competing fish forums, UNLESS its an ontopic discussion and the post on that forum in question has some good information.

ahh np, just wanted to make sure the key goal here is sharing and learning, not "if we don't like what you have to say it will get deleted, and if you argue, you will be banned" lol
I even got an infraction for saying "if you talk down about a product without knowing the science behind it or actually using it, that's just ignorance talking" lol
it's like saying "snickers bars are completely disgusting and will give you cancer! i've never had one though and don't know what's in them" heh

Ha! Funny string of comments here! We don't bash other people's ideas around here and just try to be as helpful as possible. We've all been beginers in this hobby and need to remember how difficult that can be. We're always glad to have new members with questions; without questions we would just hang around all day posting tank pictures and discussing the pros and cons of snickers bars. Wait...what do we do again? =) Welcome to the forum and make yourselves at home

I used to be a mod here, I left the staff over the decisions of the admins on other staff members and their attitudes. Im still here and would love to help J out a bit but to be honest, It makes no different all a mod has here is editing power which is fine but I have a low tolerance for idiots and stupid folk and having to sit and deal with them(especially from the staff, we all know who was here and havnt shown up since).

Basically you cant cross advertise sites, cant talk back, cant argue or debate with staff.

But dont act like a retard and you will be fine, The OWNER of this site, the OWNER not the minions but the true OWNER is a great guy and gives people chances. But just dont go crapping where you sleep and youll be fine.

I have been a member of this forum for a while now and I am a member of others that I have not been on for a lOOOOng time, pretty much since signing up here and I have to say that the ppl on this forum and the mods as well are from my experience very helpful and overall polite. If you take any notice at all Im always logged on and I do appreciate the ppl here for all of the help and all of the great personal experience that they share as well.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. We try to have an open environment here where learning and discussions take place, where everyone is approachable and kind to one another, and rational as well.
I'm always available to discuss any matter that may arise, just click the contact us link on any page or send me a PM. I feel as if our wonderful team of moderators are as well.
We have a lot of fun things we can do here and we're growing into a really fine community, free of drama, and where everyone comes to relax, discuss, share pictures and videos, have a good time, learn, teach, and overall, share in a common interest of a hobby that has been around for hundreds or thousands of years.
Sometimes we might make a bad decision on taking the wrong person onto staff and giving them controls, if it happens we will just adapt and make the necessary adjustments. One of my roles here is to oversee the dynamics and find a good balance with the community. As we grow its important to take more and more staff on board to have more eyes and ears around. Sometimes I make a bad decision, like in the case of the person who was mentioned in the first post, and for that I apologize to anyone who is adversely affected. The person mentioned has left a bad trail of destruction on the web, and I have been approached by several other aquarium communities who had problems with him as well.
