I would love to be able to turn off the harassing e-mails that I get if I respond to a thread. There are times that I will decide that an answer on a question is close enough and not bother with minor corrections because I hate the e-mail notifications on every bit of traffic that I touch. My spam folder gets full fast enough without help from my forum interactions. On most forums the ability to opt out is a real plus.

I find the option listed for each message and turn each one off as soon as I post but I find that approach a PITA. I would much rather be able to change the default behavior but can't find a way to do so in the User CP.

I have found that any time you become a member of almost any forum there is an option to "hide" your email from public view and control who you want to be able to send emails to you and this one is no exception to that rule. It is important though to accept PM's so you can be contacted if someone has something to say that may be of interest to you. I have known of people who opted out of all communication for time's sake and ended up with the staff not being able to reach them for important information about a question or some other request they had made.

Chickadee, I don't like to opt out of all e-mail notifications and have never done so in a fish type forum. It is the auto-subscribe to every new thread that bothers me. Right after I finish this answer I will need to either go unsubscribe from this thread for the third time or put up with the incoming e-mails. If I turn off all communications I would expect to have trouble and don't want to do that. To me there is a huge space between those extremes where I would like to be.

Oldman, visit this link:
http://www.aquariumforum.com/profile.php?do=editoptions Scroll down to: change that to whatever setting you like best, there are 5 options: Do not subscribe No email notification (but subscribe) Instant email notification Daily email notification Weekly email notification I think you might like the No email notification setting best based on your feedback. Best regards |

And by the way, to easily change the setting on all the threads you already posted on, visit this link:
http://www.aquariumforum.com/subscription.php Click the checkbox at the top to select all, and at the bottom in the dropdown menu select "Selected Threads: >> Update subscription type >> No email notification" |

And then in the future, whenever you visit the forums, to check on your threads, visit that same subscription.php page to keep track of them. You can see who the last person to post was on each thread, and of course it'll be sorted with the most active threads at the top.

Thanks for that answer MediaHound. I must have missed that option 10 times before you pointed it out.
