Default articles?

Just wondered if there was an articles section here?

I find myself repeating stuff all the time.

But perhaps I just need to get outta the rut.

Had this discussion already. We need something like an article section, or a Q&A, common problems, or how ever it's named. This way you could search that forum only to locate your problem. Searching the web is often times rather daunting.

The problem I think is that many people won't bother looking through it when it's easier to just make a post asking what's wrong with their tank. It'd be nice to have a section for cataloged articles though; I've got a couple that I'm writing right now that would be nice to keep accessible for people.

I really do think it's a good idea. Even if posters don't read them before they post their question, I for one don't mind linking them to the page that might help, it beats writing it out every time or having to do a search first so as to give them a link.

And although some newbie posters won't read FAQ sections. I learned most of the basics that way before I even joined a forum so there are going to be some that do. Even now that I know more I still have to refer back to these things sometimes.

I don't like it when posters are required to read all FAQs and stickies first before they post and then get yelled at for not doing it because some people on here are kids, don't speak English well or maybe they just don't have much time are lazy or rather ask a question in person. Either way I think the main purpose of a forum like this is to be able to ask questions even if they are newbie ones and if the person is asking the question usually they really want help with it. But IMHO a section for permanent articles would be useful. Even if the newbies didn't use it I would ;). If the moderators are interested I'd be happy to help out on writing, I'm not as experienced as some but would feel comfortable tackling some of the basic subjects.

You mean an off-topic section like this one?

I find myself doing the same thing all the time. I will end up in the exact same discussion over and over within a couple weeks, either on the same forum or on different forums. Then I will write an article about it and post it in a forum blog, post it as its own thread that may or may not get stickied, or it would be adapted as an article for that particular forum. Recently I finally compiled them all on their own site that I can send people to so they can read the article the relates to the discussion at hand and if they want check out some of the others. This way I am not sending them to another forum that happens to have the article as a sticky or something.

What I think works best is to have articles stickied in their relevant section(s) so that when people go to that section they can see them easier, as opposed to having a separate article section they would have to seek out.

I think if you remove all duplicate threads there would be nothing going on here, or on any other forum. Almost every single thread is effectively identical to another and also unique in its own way. Having new threads about the same subject also allows people to share opinions and experiences that were not discussed in previous threads on the subject.
