For a substrate i use 1" peat moss,1" play sand,1" pc select (or gravel) in layers.

Amazon swords will soon completely fill up any 5g tank. Even just 1 in a 10g can be too much at times.

I do not use any added nutrients and for a 10g i use a couple of 15w spiral compact flourescent 6500k bulbs. If your current light is a 25w incandescent, that would probably work for a 5g.



Glad to see you are getting plants. they make the tank not only "Pretty" but also much easier to maintain.
